[TN] A Food Guide of Tainan’s Yongle Market

If Taiwan, in general, is a food paradise, then Tainan would be the capital where you can find the most authentic traditional Taiwanese food! Tainan, situated in the southern part of Taiwan and about 260km from Taipei, is often overlooked by tourists, but its laidback charm and gentle pace are what made the city appealing. Besides being known as Taiwan's cultural capital, Tainan is also known as the "city of snacks". The best part is that the vendors are all concentrated on one street, which is perfect to do a food crawl!

[HK] Private Club Dining – Jiang Su Club

This was probably the most memorable dinner I had in Hong Kong thus far! Jiangsu Club (江蘇薈), located at Alliance Building in Sheung Wan, is a private dining club operated by the Federation of Hong Kong Jiangsu community organization, which is for its members only. Thanks to my brother's mentor, I had the opportunity to get a taste of the most authentic Jiang su cuisine without visiting the province in China!

[HK] Delicate French-Japanese cuisine – Ta Vie旅

Japanese cuisine gives people an impression of beautiful presentation and high quality ingredients. The other characteristics of Japanese traditional cuisine, especially in Kaiseki, are that the meals consist of several small plates, and every dish is well-plated, and color coordinated, which give a harmonious vibe to the eyes and the palates! Modern French cuisine (or nouvelle cuisine) has adopted this approach; high quality ingredients and elegantly represented in small portions. Ta vie in Hong Kong is one of the examples.

[TW] Bean-to-cup coffee – cama café (drip bag coffee

The first time that I had cama coffee was an introduction from my mom few years ago. I first had their iced latte, which had a distinct smokey coffee flavors, and not too milky! I have the chance to sample their drip bag coffee, which I found that it is perfect way to brew a good cuppa at office or when you're traveling! *Giveaway at the end of the post!

[JP] Back to the Meiji Era – Makabe Chinaa

Makabe Chinaa (茶処真壁ちなー) is a 120-year-old Okinawan folk house that has been renovated and changed to a restaurant. It's located in the suburb of Southern Okinawa, Itoman city. The house was built in 1891 and designated as a registered tangible cultural property in Japan. The house has quite a history, which had survived the fires of war, but still standing strong today. The red roof tiles and the wooden framework inside adds a touch of Okinawan and nostalgic feeling to the restaurant. It made me felt like returning to my grandparents'.

[TPE] “Taiwanese taco” – Lan Gua Bao (藍家刈包)

"Bao" has been one of the trendiest food for the past year. Just like bubble tea, not a lot of people know that it's originated from an island, Taiwan. It's most commonly known as steamed buns, pork belly buns, or ambiguously, bao, in North America. Gua bao consists of a thick slice of braised meat that's wrapped between a folded flat steamed bread. People often refer and describe it as the Chinese hamburger, but to me, it's more like taco!

[JP] Street Food Crawl – Kokusai Yatai Village

“Yatai” is a Japanese-style street food stall, which often only limited to just selling one item. Kokusai Yatai Village located in the Mashiki district of Naha city features a variety of Yatai-style small restaurants in one complex. Soon after the opening, it instantly became a hot spot among visitors and locals. There are 22 restaurants in the complex that serve dishes like sushi, yakiniku, yakitori, ramen, soba noodles and more! It's perfect for tourists who are only there for a short period of time, but would like to try everything!
