[MTL] Food Truck Round 3. – Famous Restaurants Camions Version

I know I did say that the Campus Version was the last food truck post, but here’s another one! The food trucks are now extended till November 3rd, 2013!

Camion Au Pied du Cochon
Camion Au Pied du Cochon

This has been the food truck that I’ve always been looking forward to! Since the actual restaurant is a bit pricy, too far to go to during school year, and the fact that it is always packed, the Camion Au Pied de Cochon is the best option to get a taste of their food!

Since it was so hard to decide what should we order, my friend and I ordered a Combo #2 to share, which includes Beigne Cochon (Pork doughnut), Beigne Fraises (Strawberry doughnut), Foie Gras Poutine, and Homemade watermelon soda.

Beigne Cochon
Beigne Cochon

This is a pork doughnut! Instead of regular burger buns, Camion Au Pied de Cochon uses housemade doughnut, and surprisingly, it wasn’t as greasy as regular sweet doughnuts! The beigne cochon contains pork that are cooked in three different ways. According to The Gazette, maple syrup brine is injected into pork’s shoulder. The other one is the smoked meat, which is coated with mixed spices. The other one is the white ham. The doughnut is spread with mustard. The buns taste a bit like brioche, and the meat is clean (no extra sauce), and not greasy.

Foie Gras Poutine

Montreal is famous for its poutine, so why would Au Pied de Cochon miss it! My friend and I loved this the most out of the combo box. The foie gras melts right away in your mouth. It is creamy and smooth, but not greasy at all! We ended up cleaning the box with the doughnut from the beigne cochon! 😛

Of course a meal can’t end without dessert! This is a sweet doughnut with their housemade strawberries jam coated with sugar. After eating half of the beigne cochon and the foie gras poutine, I already feel a bit full. However, I loved their strawberries jam! I would guess that they have added a bit of maple syrup in their jam, but it was good! However, after eating half it, it ended up being too sweet for me. I think it would be better without the sugar coating!

Soda Melon d'eau

I haven’t had soda for years, but since the reviews online mentioned that the soda is pretty special, I thought I’d give it a try, since it’s included in the combo anyways. The soda of the day was watermelon! It’s the combination of watermelon and maple syrup. Surprisingly, it wasn’t super sweet to the point that you’ll get sick of it. I think the watermelon balanced out the sweetness of the maple syrup, and added a bit of freshness in it.

This is also another food truck that I’ve always been following, hoping that it’ll drop by somewhere close to wherever I’m convenient! And it came to the Mac Campus!

I was deciding between their vegetarian option and chili when I looked up the menu online, however, they didn’t have veggie option today, and the chili contains beef, so definitely out of my list. I ended up ordering the bacon grilled cheese.

I was really disappointed. The sandwich was really greasy, and I felt like I smelled like butter and fats afterwards. Though the cheese was good, but I think the toasts had too much butter that it just went overboard.

I think this is really the last post of the food trucks! I spent way too much on food trucks this month, time to save up! 🙂
