Brunch still goes on when I am in New York! When I approached to Mayssam from Will Travel For Food for suggestions, Locanda Verde was her first recommendation for brunch in New York. Locanda Verde is located in the TriBeCa neighborhood, serving Chef Andrew Carmellini’s “soul-satisfying urban Italian” menu.
Sheep’s milk ricotta with truffle honey and burnt orange toast is a starter that I see on every single blogs/reviews when I was doing my research! It was absolutely amazing! It doesn’t have the unpleasant taste of sheep milk. It was creamy and light. The truffle honey did not overpowered in terms of the flavor (since sometimes the taste of truffle can be too strong).
Lemon ricotta pancakes with blueberries and meyer lemon curd is a main that I encountered in every blogs/reviews as well (also recommended by the waiter). The pancakes are light and fluffy. I’m usually not a fan of lemon when it’s used in sweets, however, the lemon taste wasn’t too overwhelming.
Soft scrambled farm egg crostini with leeks, mushrooms, and speck. Brunch isn’t a brunch without eggs! The speck is a type of prosciutto, and it added the salty element to the plate. The eggs were cooked to perfection. It was light and fluffy. However, I think their definition of “scrambled” eggs is different than mine. Nonetheless, it was good.
The servers were attentive, and bustling yet comfortable and casual ambiance. Though the restaurant is packed, and tables are pretty close to each other, there wasn’t a sense of pressure that you have to leave as soon as you finish your meal.
Although it falls on the more expensive side for brunch, it was a great experience since I’ve never had Italian brunch. I was surprised that they accept reservations for brunch (which is not common in Montreal at all). My friend and I waited for around 30 minutes before we got seated, therefore reservation is strongly recommended if you are planning to go!
