I am attracted deeply by those British 3-tier afternoon tea set. It has always been a must whenever I visit Hong Kong. For the past few years in Montreal, I’ve been looking for a decent spot, but surprisingly, it wasn’t as easy as I thought! Even the classy Ritz-Carlton’s high tea disappointed my friend and me greatly.

Le Parloir is a cute, charming, and cozy tea room located near Metro Mont-Royal. The European inspired decors levels up the experience, as you would feel like you are in Europe while sipping your tea with Victorian china. The first thing I noticed as I entered was the flowers on each table!

The tearoom is known for its delicate and fluffy scones, which are served with Devonshire cream (clotted cream) and jam. Moreover, homemade pastries and meals (changes daily/weekly), as well as wide selection of teas and drinks.

As soon as the owner welcomed us warmly, and led us to our table, she brought up a basket of various teas for us to choose to pair with our afternoon tea set! Normally, I would go with earl grey, but I chose blue spring oolong on that day.

The tea was served with a sandglass, and the owner explained that the tea is ready once the sandglass stops. It was a relatively a new thing for me as in Hong Kong, people don’t really care how long you steep your tea. I really liked the oolong I chose! It wasn’t bitter even I steeped it for a bit longer. However, I found it a bit weird when the tea was served in those Japanese/Chinese tea pot, and paired with a European cup set.

What makes Le Parloir special among all these tea rooms in Montreal is its 3-tier tea set after 2 pm. It comes with 5 salty bouchées, 5 sweet bouchées, and scones.

For these 3-tier tea stand, you start from the bottom (Savory), and enjoy your way up, ending the meal on the sweets. I was impressed by all these 5 savories! Not to mentioned that there were duck confit, foie gras, and smoked salmon, the classic ham and cucumber sandwiches were on the spot too. The toasts were moist, and the thickness of the ham and cucumber were perfect. The duck confit was my favorite, since the meat wasn’t dried or hard at all even though it was cold.

The scone! High tea is never complete without a scone. The scone was indeed fluffy and delicate, but a bit too crumbly for me.

The sweets were pretty good. The macaron was delicate, and definitely well-made. The exterior has this egg-shell texture, and the filling was moist and soft, almost like meringue.

Overall, I left with great satisfaction knowing that I’ve found a spot to fulfill my cravings. It’s an ideal place for an afternoon tea party (they do take large group reservations). If you love tea, scone, hard time choosing between savory or sweets, this is definitely a place for you.
