[HCM] Crab Feast – Quan 94 Đặc Sản Cua Biển

I love crabs, but I don’t like the process of deconstructing it. Quan 94 is a restaurant, located in District 1, that specializes in all sorts of crab dishes. For all those crab lovers, but don’t want to get your hands dirty, this is the place!

Outside of the restaurant, there are baskets of crabs that are neatly aligned. Waiting for their turns to be served, and interestingly, they aren’t smelly! I’ve always have an impression of smelly seafood under the hot, humid weather, but not in this case.

We started off with the crab soup, which looked like a bowl of corn soup to me upon serving. However, i tasted nothing like corn soup. In fact, it was extremely flavorful, and crab-by! The flavor was good, but I would prefer it not thickened, because it was tongue-burning hot and not light enough for the hot weather.

Spring rolls (either fried or fresh) are almost a staple of Vietnamese cuisine. We also ordered the crab meat spring rolls, which were deep-fried to golden brown. I loved it because the wrapper is very thin and crisp. It’s loaded with crab meats!

There’s always at least one plate of fresh vegetables on the table in Vietnam. The spring roll is wrapped in the lettuce with a bit of vermicelli. The crisp lettuce break the greasiness of the spring roll, and lighten up the dish!

These are deep fried soft-shell crab. This dish was okay as there isn’t any seasoning besides some white pepper.

The crab meat fried rice was delicious! It was fluffy (rice not in clumps), and the crab meats were in whole pieces, not floss.

The crab meat vermicelli was my favorite on the table! Generous amount of crab meat, and crab roes. It makes me feel like there’s more crab meat than vermicelli!

Overall, it was better than I expected! My mom even walked out of the restaurant saying that she would like to return before we leave the city. The portion is very generous, and it’s good for sharing. Besides crabs, they also have other items on the menu, such as shrimps, chicken…etc, but the crab dishes are the stars!
