[MTL] Nonna’s Bakery – Rosetta

There are more and more restaurants opened in the St-Henri neighborhood. On the bustling streets of Notre-Dame, right across my favorite Middle Eastern restaurant Sumac, lies Rosetta – a charming new Italian & French bakery and patisserie. Paying homage to Rosetta Sciortino Cammalleri, who is the mother and grandmother of owners, Maria and Rocco Cammalleri. Everything offered at the store is homemade where, many of the dishes are recipes that have been passed on through generations. Serving a vast assortment of sweet and savoury delights, at Rosetta, the secret ingredient is.... “family”!

[Recipe] Worth the Wait – Whole Wheat Cinnamon Buns

Cinnamon buns (or rolls)... How should I begin? It the food that I can have it any time of the day, breakfast, snacks, afternoon snack or even as dessert. I have a soft spot for cinnamon buns, because it was the first western "dessert", as I would used to refer it, I had when I was a kid. It was also my first encounter with cinnamon, and since then, it's my favorite spice. Nonetheless, traditional cinnamon buns are high in sugar and calories, not to mention the icing. This no-butter and no-refined sugar recipe not only cut down the calories, but also incorporated some fibre.

[Recipe] Addictive Afternoon Snack – Pumpkin Mochi Cake

Pumpkin, or squash, is the most-talked food during the fall. It's also a very versatile ingredient that can be made into sweets or savory dishes. The vibrant orange/yellow color also makes the dish presentable. Moreover, pumpkin is a good source of vitamins, such as vitamin E and B6, and has low glycemic index. This pumpkin mochi cake is very easy to make, and tastes the best when serving straight out from the pan.

[Recipe] Oh-so fluffy – Buckwheat Soufflé Pancake

Pancakes used to be my favorite type of breakfast when I was a kid, especially those classic buttermilk pancakes. As I'm older, I become more of a french toast person. Japan, one of my favorite countries in the world, is known for their creativity, including food. Pancakes are quite popular in Japan. Since the Americans can make "cronuts" (aka croissant + donut), why can't the Japanese put soufflé and pancake together? It maintains the versatility of pancakes, but also has the airiness of soufflé. Definitely perfect for brunch, afternoon tea, or tea.
