[MTL] A Boutique Café – Le Butterblume

Le Butterblume, locating on the main, is a restaurant, a cafe, as well as a boutique. This hybrid cafe is started by a team of the Pâtisserie Rhubarbe and Olive et Gourmando alum, which is at the border of Mile End and Little Italy. Not only the owners, Julie Romano and Nadine Boudreau, have strong restaurant résumés, so does the chef, Jens Ruoff. After my first visit, it has become one of my favorite weekday and weekend brunch spots!

[Recipe] Oh-so fluffy – Buckwheat Soufflé Pancake

Pancakes used to be my favorite type of breakfast when I was a kid, especially those classic buttermilk pancakes. As I'm older, I become more of a french toast person. Japan, one of my favorite countries in the world, is known for their creativity, including food. Pancakes are quite popular in Japan. Since the Americans can make "cronuts" (aka croissant + donut), why can't the Japanese put soufflé and pancake together? It maintains the versatility of pancakes, but also has the airiness of soufflé. Definitely perfect for brunch, afternoon tea, or tea.

When I walked in, there were only 6 tables with some round tables and some rectangular tables. I thought, "oh.. it's quite small". la petite maison However, who knew that the restaurant is divided into three parts! The front house, kitchen/bar area, and a private salon room at the back. Dining at La Petite Maison definitely made me feel like dining at a friend's. Here's why...

[MTL] Non-Italian Brunch Gem in Little Italy – Salmigondis

I've heard about Salmigondis quite a few times before visiting. I didn't have any motivations to go north until it was strongly recommended by Montreal Food Pictures, especially it's from the same owner as Arts Cafe (one of my favorite cafes in Montreal). Locating in the Little Italy, Salmigondis is only a block away from Impasto and GEMA. I can say it makes the top 3 best brunches in Montreal on my list.
