[MTL] “Tea Room” – Mayfair Cocktail Bar

First of all, I don’t drink, so I barely go to a bar. However, I was invited to try the new menu of Mayfair cocktail bar, located in the plateau, and surprisingly, the evening turned out better than I expected!

The bar is very low-key that it can be easily missed when walking on rue Rachel. Once you passed through 2 doors, and entered, you’ll find yourself in a very British-inspired lounge!

Its décor is modeled after a 19th century English tea room, so not so surprised that their drink menu is quite British too as many of their signature cocktails are infused with tea!

I had my eyes on this pink drink since I first saw it on Instagram. The one in the front, goji berry, is a mix of Beefeater, St-Germain, thé Rois Mages, goji juice, cranberry juice, egg white, and fresh lemon juice. Clearly, mine was without the alcohol. According to our waiter, he said that it has a ticklish feel at the throat when you drink it! My friend had the green velvet, which is made with Hendrick’s, absinthe, Gykuro Asahi tea syrup, celery and coriander, fresh lemon juice, english cucumber, and celery and coriander mousse. It sounds like an alcoholic version of green juice!

Now.. comes to the food! Mayfair has recently launched a new menu created by Marie-Ève Lemieux from Lucilles! These two are my favorite salads of the night. On the left, it’s the fried cauliflower with Middle-eastern spices, roasted cashew, pomegranate, and lime labneh! The flavors worked so well together! The dish on the right is the brussel sprouts salad with parmesan (lots!), quail eggs, and cesar vinaigrette. Absolutely delicious! The dressing was definitely just right, didn’t drowned the salad.

Moving on to the heavier dishes…On the right, it is the house-made fresh pasta (cavatelli) with tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, parmesan, crumble, basil, and grilled bread. The sauce was a bit too sweet for me, and I wished there would’ve been more cheese. On the other hand, my friend thought it tasted just right for her! Both of us agreed that the crispy chicken sliders on the left of the photo were worth ordering again! The chicken was very tender and juicy, with cabbage salad (more like a slaw), and the jalapeño gave a good hint of spiciness!

The night could’ve been perfect if we had desserts! We purposely saved rooms for the sweet finale. However, when we were ready to order, our waiter told us that the kitchen closed 15 minutes ago. It was quite a disappointment, but good in a way that it was definitely a bit too late to have sweets! However, the customer service was impeccable! They apologized for the mistake (more than once), and offered if we would like to have another glass of drinks. Mayfair is named after London’s most opulent neighborhood – perfect for happy hour, a night out with the girls, a romantic evening or a group outing, Mayfair is the ideal place to escape the daily grind and live like a British aristocrat while sipping a cocktail—or two!
